About this position

The European Institute of Oncology (IEO) in Milan, Italy, is offering a 3-year fully funded postdoctoral position in computational biology and bioinformatics within the team of Serena Ghisletti. This opportunity is part of the EP PerMed project, focusing on Precision Medicine for Therapy-Related Myeloid Neoplasias. The postdoc will be responsible for evaluating and implementing advanced bulk RNA-seq, single-cell RNA-seq, and spatial transcriptomics workflows to investigate transcriptional programs and cell heterogeneity in large patient cohorts of myeloid neoplasms. The role involves analyzing and integrating multi-omics data (including RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, and ATAC-seq) with a focus on the interplay between transcriptional circuits and epigenetic states. The candidate will also develop and maintain sequencing data processing pipelines, particularly for RNA-seq and single-cell workflows, on high-performance computing systems. Another key responsibility is to identify patient-specific signatures by correlating longitudinal single-cell data with clinical outcomes to improve precision patient stratification.

Applicants should hold a PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, or a related field. Essential qualifications include experience in NGS and omics data analysis, as well as strong computational and statistical skills (Unix, Python, R/Bioconductor) for handling large-scale biological datasets. Additional desirable skills include experience with workflow managers (Nextflow, Snakemake), single-cell and spatial omics data analysis tools (Seurat, Scanpy), and containerization tools (Docker, Singularity). Experience in machine learning or artificial intelligence for disease progression or patient stratification is advantageous.
