About this position

University of Central Florida Department of Materials Science and Engineering is recruiting for fully funded PhD and postdoctoral positions in electrochemical materials, electrolyzer functionalization, and scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM).

The new research group led by Prof. Xin Chen will focus on advanced electrochemical materials and systems, high-throughput electrochemical characterization, and applications in sustainable energy, water, carbon management, and resource recovery.

PhD research themes include synthesis of novel PGM and PGM-free materials for electrocatalysis, functionalized electrolyzers for electrolysis and electrodialysis, interface engineering for improved activity/selectivity/stability, materials characterization, and high-throughput electrochemical performance evaluation.

Postdoctoral research themes include SECM-based methods for high-throughput studies, local electrochemical characterization, electrode functionalization, electrochemical interfaces, saltwater electrolysis, ion transport and separation, corrosion, and electrode degradation.

Eligibility highlights: PhD applicants should have or expect a B.S. or M.S. in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, electrochemistry, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field. Postdoctoral applicants should hold a Ph.D. in a related field. Preferred experience includes SECM, materials chemistry, electrode functionalization, electrochemical testing, materials characterization, scanning probe methods, electrolysis, electrodialysis, corrosion, electrochemical separations, machine learning, or autonomous optimization.

Funding: the PhD position is fully funded. No deadline is listed in the post.

How to apply: email Prof. Xin Chen directly with a cover letter, CV, references, and any representative publications or unofficial transcripts. Candidates interested in electrochemical materials, electrochemistry, and sustainable technologies are encouraged to reach out.
