About this position
Technische Universität Berlin is advertising a fully funded PhD-related research position in the EU-cofunded HOTSTEEL project, focused on the integrated optimization of continuous casting and hot rolling processes for sustainable steel production and decarbonization.
The project sits at the intersection of operations research, production management, simulation, mathematical modeling, data analytics, and industrial AI. The successful candidate will work on cross-process production planning and optimization, develop optimization and solution methods, build simulation-based analyses, and contribute to configurable modeling frameworks and dynamic test environments. The work is carried out with academic and industry partners, including a European steel plant.
Eligibility highlights: a very good master's degree, diploma, or equivalent in industrial engineering, computer science, information systems, business mathematics, operations research, or a comparable field; strong background in production planning/control and simulation or production management; advanced modeling and analysis skills; and experience with tools such as JuMP, Gurobi, Plant Simulation, or AnyLogic. Good German and/or English skills are required, with willingness to learn the missing language.
Funding: the position is fully funded, paid at TV-L E13, with 100% employment and part-time possible. The contract is fixed-term until 31 March 2029. The post also states that the opportunity to pursue a PhD is included.
