PhD Studentship in Socio-Economic Impact Evaluation of Offshore Wind Farms, Wellbeing and Community Dynamics

PhD opportunity in economics , offshore wind , social value , wellbeing , community dynamics , and environmental sustainability at Loughborough University through the AURA Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Offshore Wind Energy Sustainability and Resilience . This joint PhD studentship is sponsored by The Crown Estate and delivered with the economics team at Loughborough University. The project will examine how offshore wind farms affect community wellbeing, quality of life, social cohesion, local identity, economic resilience, and opportunity across the full offshore wind lifecycle, from development and construction to operation. The research will develop a robust quantitative dataset and use applied and behavioural economics, econometrics, and non-market monetisation to evaluate social costs and benefits. The work is designed for real-world use and aims to inform how social value is measured and embedded in decision-making for offshore wind policy and practice. Funding is provided by the EPSRC CDT and includes full tuition fees plus a UKRI stipend of £21,805 per year at 2026/27 rates, subject to progress. The scholarship is available to Home (UK) students only . Entry requirements include a first-class honours degree, or a 2:1 honours degree plus a Masters, or a distinction at Masters level, in economics, energy economics, environmental science, or a related field. Strong analytical, quantitative, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills are required. International applicants must meet the IELTS 7.0 overall requirement with no less than 6.0 in each component.
