We are looking for someone to join our dynamic team to explore the role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) and exosomes in AMD. This project delves into how EV/exosome signalling between retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells may influence disease progression and offers potential therapeutic targets.
We are seeking a highly motivated student who has a genuine passion for discovery and translational research, brings some laboratory experience, ideally in cell biology or molecular biology, and wants to launch a career in eye research, regenerative medicine, or cell therapies
You’ll be embedded in a leading EV research group at Cardiff, with additional training at the University of Birmingham - offering a rich, collaborative, and multidisciplinary environment.
Host Institution: Cardiff University (School of Optometry and Vision Sciences)
Collaborating Institution: University of Birmingham
Supervisors: Dr Ben Mead (Cardiff), Dr Lisa Hill (Birmingham)
Start Date: October 2025
This project is fully funded for UK students through the generosity of the Macular Society . Funding includes fees, a stipend (UKRI rate) and research costs.
