About this position
Ghent University is seeking a doctoral fellow to join the TRASlab team in the Department of Biotechnology for a research project focused on sustainable phosphate removal from wastewater and surface water using electrochemical processes. The position is part of the Water4All project EPHIC, which involves collaboration with Cranfield University (UK), RWTH Aachen (Germany), and BETA center (Spain). The successful candidate will conduct process development and lab-based reactor research at Ghent University, working closely with international partners.
The research aims to advance water purification technologies and contribute to sustainability in environmental engineering. The fellowship is a full-time position, initially for 12 months and extendable up to 48 months upon positive evaluation. The start date is January 1, 2026 at the earliest.
Funding includes a tax-free fellowship equivalent to the net salary of an AAP member, with the exact amount determined by family status and seniority. Additional staff benefits include extensive training opportunities, generous holiday leave, bicycle allowance, and eco vouchers. Applicants must hold a master's degree in bioscience engineering, engineering science, or an equivalent field by the appointment date.
Candidates should demonstrate commitment to water technology and sustainability, possess practical laboratory skills for reactor setup and operation, and be able to process research data for publication. Fluency in English and the ability to collaborate internationally are essential, as is a willingness to travel abroad for short periods if required. Applications should include a CV, diploma copy (if available), and a motivation letter sent to [email protected] before the deadline of December 6, 2025. Ghent University encourages applications from all backgrounds as part of its equal opportunities and diversity policy.
