About this position
The KTH Royal Institute of Technology invites applications for a doctoral student position focused on AI and the future of teacher education. This opportunity is part of the LärA-AI graduate school, a pioneering initiative exploring how generative AI (GenAI) is transforming the teaching profession across psychosocial, physical, and digital dimensions. The project addresses the increasing stress, ethical tensions, and rapid technological changes faced by teachers, as AI becomes integral to planning, assessment, and decision-making in schools. Teachers are encountering shifting roles, heightened pressures, and new demands for ethical judgment and digital skills.
The LärA-AI graduate school is a collaboration between KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Uppsala University, and the University of Gävle, all recognized for their research in education, digitalization, workplace practices, and AI. The research school comprises nine interdisciplinary doctoral projects organized around three themes: the changing nature of pedagogical work with GenAI, professional autonomy and ethical decision-making, and digital competence, professional learning, and organizational change in AI-integrated schools.
This doctoral position is based in the LEaP (Learning, Education and Pedagogy) research group at the Department of Learning in Engineering Sciences, School of ITM, KTH. LEaP investigates education and learning in STEM fields, bringing together expertise in pedagogy, mathematics, technology, and computing. The successful candidate will join a vibrant research environment and contribute to the Graduate School on Teachers’ Work Environment in the Age of genAI.
Supervision will be provided by Professor Arnold Pears. The position offers full-time employment for up to four years, with a monthly salary according to KTH’s doctoral student salary agreement and access to employee benefits. The doctoral student may perform certain tasks within their role, such as training and administration, up to 20% of their time.
Applicants must have a second cycle degree (e.g., master's) or equivalent, with at least 240 higher education credits (including 60 second-cycle credits), and be fluent in English and Swedish. English proficiency equivalent to English B/6 is mandatory. Selection emphasizes personal skills, including independence, collaboration, professionalism, and analytical ability. Certified copies of diplomas, grades, and language certificates are required, with translations if originals are not in English or Swedish.
Applications must be submitted via KTH’s recruitment system by March 12, 2026. Required documents include a CV, application letter (max 2 pages), certified copies of diplomas and grades, certificates of language proficiency, and representative publications or technical reports.
