The candidate will undertake research secondments at Linköping University and make regular visits to Cybercampus Sweden in Stockholm, gaining access to an extended national research environment.
The research project addresses the security challenges of mission-critical IoT deployments, such as disaster response, autonomous drone systems, intelligent transportation, and industrial automation. These systems operate under strict resource constraints, often in dynamic and challenging environments, where traditional centralized security mechanisms are impractical. The doctoral student will focus on distributed trust and verification, combining system-level security mechanisms with emerging technologies to support scalable, robust, and long-term secure operation of resource-constrained IoT platforms.
Applicants must hold an MSc in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, with excellent communication skills in English. A relevant background in networking and computer security, as well as a genuine interest in the PhD project, is required. The position values collaborative attitude, self-motivation, attention to detail, and analytical ability. The doctoral student will take advanced courses, develop and pursue an independent research project, and communicate research results both verbally and in writing. Teaching duties may comprise up to 20% of working hours, potentially extending the appointment to five years.
The position is fully funded from the start, with a starting salary of 34,550 SEK per month (valid from May 25, 2025), and includes mobility funds for secondments and travel.
