We're excited to announce a fully funded 4-year PhD studentship in collaboration with British Judo Association and the University of Wolverhampton

This is a unique opportunity to:
? Deliver S&C support to elite judo athletes at the British Judo National Training Centre
? Work within an interdisciplinary team alongside Olympic and World-class performers
? Develop applied academic expertise through a project focused on gym-to-mat performance transfer
? £20,780 annual stipend + full tuition fee waiver

?? Research Project: Enhancing Judo Performance – Designing and Delivering Effective Training

The project explores how physical preparation translates into technical and tactical success in competition. It includes:

Identifying key physical qualities behind winning judo actions
Co-designing training interventions with coaches and athletes
Developing practical tools to track readiness and adaptation

Funding details

What's required

Applicants should have a strong academic background in sport science, strength and conditioning, or a related field. Experience in coaching or working with elite athletes is highly desirable. Candidates must demonstrate applied academic skills, an understanding of interdisciplinary research, and the ability to collaborate with coaches and athletes. A relevant undergraduate or master's degree is required. Applicants should provide a CV, cover letter, and contact details of two referees.
