About this position

?? New Beginnings in Canada! ???? ?? After three exciting years with the Clean Combustion Group at the University of Sydney, where I had the pleasure of working on a variety of fire safety problems—including laser diagnostics applied to Li-ion battery thermal runaway, wall flames, flame spread, and fire suppression—I’m thrilled to share that I’ve made a big move across the (very large) pond to Canada! I’m excited to announce that I’ve recently commenced a new academic role as an Assistant Professor in Fire Safety Engineering at the University of Waterloo. I will be joining wonderful colleagues such as Prof. Beth Weckman and Prof.Cecile Devaud in the UW Fire Research Group. I would like to thank the great team at the Clean Combustion Lab at USyd for the exceptional experience over the past few years, in particular Prof. Assaad Masri, Dr. Matthew Dunn, Prof. Matthew Cleary, A/Prof. Agisilaos Kourmatzis, Tony Xiao, Dr. Andrew Macfarlane, Callum Kennedy, and Dr. Sebastian Galindo López. I was also fortunate to work with many exceptionally bright Postdocs, HDR and undergraduate students. I’m grateful for the collaborations we fostered with various academic and industry partners—too numerous to name here! Although I’ve relocated, I’m pleased to continue my affiliation with USyd and look forward to our ongoing collaborations. My research in the UW Fire Research Group will continue to explore multi-scale fire phenomena, leveraging our state-of-the-art Large Fire Research Facility. We have a range of funded projects on Li-ion battery thermal runaway, timber compartment fires, and wildland fire emissions and spread. A key component of this work will involve expanding our optical diagnostic capabilities to larger-scale fire behavior in these areas. We are looking to hire PhD and MASc students to join our team on these exciting experimental projects. If you’re interested to learn more, I’d love to connect—feel free to reach out!…more
