About this position

PhD position

I am looking for a new PhD student to work on a project investigating the feasibility of a small-scale sawmilling niche market for forest landowners. The student will work with portable sawmills, solar kilns, and farm tractors to evaluate the productivity and cost of producing lumber from various tree species. The student will further work on an economic analysis of the market potential in South Carolina and beyond. In addition, the student will be part of Extension training programs to share practical research results with private forest owners in the state.

The ideal candidate has a strong interest in small-scale forest management applications and communicates well with a variety of stakeholders. Experience with portable sawmills, solar kilns, and farm tractors is a plus but not required.

I am planning to hire for the Summer or Fall semester. Applications, including a CV and cover letter, should be sent to [email protected] . Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.

An assistantship with a tuition waiver will be provided for this position.
