About this position

An industrial postdoctoral position is available in the field of marine sediment resuspension and its environmental impacts, with a focus on advancing process-based modeling of natural and anthropogenic sediment resuspension events in coastal and marine systems. The position is a collaboration between DHI, a global leader in water and environmental solutions, and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). The successful candidate will join DHI’s environmental team in the Marine and Coastal Global Business Unit and work closely with Prof. Karen Timmermann (DTU) and Director Anders Chr. Erichsen (DHI).

The research will involve developing and implementing model formulations for nutrient release and oxygen consumption associated with sediment resuspension, integrating these into the MIKE Powered by DHI marine modeling suite, and validating the models with laboratory and field data. The postdoc will also perform sensitivity analyses and scenario modeling to assess ecological impacts, and disseminate results through conferences and scientific journals.

Applicants should have a completed PhD within the last 5 years, strong expertise in coastal biogeochemical processes and modeling, analytical and programming skills (C++, Matlab, or Python), and experience in technical dissemination. Desirable qualifications include laboratory experience, knowledge of sediment-water interactions, handling large datasets, and a background in coastal engineering, chemical engineering, applied mathematics, or oceanography. The position requires proactive collaboration and the ability to start by June 1, 2026, including securing a Danish work permit.
