About this position

McGill University, in partnership with Axonal Networks, is offering an industrial postdoctoral fellowship focused on end-to-end optical interconnects, logic, and switching architectures. This unique position bridges academia and industry, targeting the development and integration of full optical interconnect stacks, from chip-level electro-optical interfaces to system-scale switching architectures. The research aims to address the growing demands of AI and high-performance computing by advancing silicon photonics, high-speed validation, and system-level architecture and simulation.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team, working hands-on with silicon photonics experiments and optical packet switching, and will split their time between McGill University and Axonal Networks in downtown Montréal. The role includes mentoring graduate researchers, coordinating experimental activities, and contributing to publications and demonstrations. The position is open to candidates with a PhD in physics or electrical engineering, strong experimental skills in high-speed electro-optical links, and knowledge of integrated circuit design or fiber systems. Excellent communication and mentoring abilities are essential, and candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.

The fellowship is funded for up to three years, with an initial review at six months. Applicants should submit a one-page cover letter, detailed CV with links to publications or portfolios, and two references. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in advancing optical technologies for AI and HPC applications in a collaborative academic-industry environment.
