About this position
The successful candidate will join the Housing Research Group with Built Environment and Sustainable Technologies Research Institute (BEST) and work closely with Dr Hu Du and Professor Michael Riley at Liverpool John Moores University to evaluate the performance of a range of low carbon retrofit solutions to be installed on LJMU Exemplar houses by Wienerberger Ltd. Wienerberger is a leading international provider of innovative, ecological solutions for the entire building envelope, in the fields of new buildings and renovations. The company is retrofitting three LJMU Exemplar houses that represent houses built in 1920s, 1970s and 2010s and building 2 new houses in LJMU Innovation zone. The project aims to conduct detailed post-retrofit performance evaluation and analyse post-retrofit monitoring data related to building fabric, moisture, indoor air quality, occupants’ behaviour, energy consumption and carbon emissions. Digital Twins and Artificial Intelligence will be used for predictive maintenance and identifying opportunities for retrofitting and system design. The project aims to offer evidence for social and private developers to make decisions in defining retrofit targets, approaches and value proposition. The scholarship research project is planned to start in October 2024 or February 2025.Applicant requirements include a first degree and/or master’s degree in a relevant subject (e.g. architectural engineering, building services engineering, architecture) and specific knowledge or experience of working with building physics, building performance evaluation. Software skills in building performance measurement, modelling, programming and data analysis are desirable. Applicants from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. For an informal discussion about this opportunity please contact Dr Hu Du via email [email protected]. For application, candidates should email three PDF files to Dr Hu Du [email protected] before 23:59 on 15th August 2024: 1, a CV including contact details of two referees, 2, a covering letter detailing their suitability for the project, and 3, a 4-page research proposal detailing research plan.
