Michigan State University’s School of Packaging is recruiting highly motivated PhD students for research in Packaging Dynamics. The program is recognized as the top in its field and offers access to advanced laboratories and industry collaborations. Research topics include multi-axis vibration analysis, composite structures, packaging sustainability, predictive response modeling, and more.

Applicants should have a strong background in mechanics and engineering analysis, ideally with a Master’s degree in Solid Mechanics, Applied Design, Structural Engineering, or related areas. Required skills include solid mechanics, dynamics, CAD (SolidWorks), finite element modeling (ANSYS, Abaqus), vibrations, introductory machine learning, and MATLAB coding. Preferred skills include experience with composite structures, metamaterials, Python coding, machine learning applications in engineering and packaging, and an interest in interdisciplinary applications such as materials, food, transportation, and sustainability. The start date is Fall 2026.
