The work leverages nonlinear dynamics in multimode optical fibers, combining controlled spatio-spectral nonlinear interactions, advanced modal decomposition, and data-driven optimization to enable programmable beam shaping directly at the source. The goal is to transition from empirical beam self-organization to deterministic, tunable generation of complex structured fields in compact fiber platforms.
Expected outcomes include a new toolbox for structured light generation based on all-fiber sources, enabling dynamic control of beam structure and spectrum with high stability suitable for real-world deployment. These novel sources are anticipated to open new opportunities across sectors such as medical diagnostics, environmental sensing and monitoring, advanced material processing, and quality control in the food industry.
The position offers planned secondments at the University of Warsaw (Poland) and University of Stuttgart (Germany), and the doctoral candidate will participate in dissemination activities through social media, project websites, LinkedIn groups, YouTube channels, and blogging. The place of employment is Tampere University, Finland, with a contract duration of 36 months and a trial period of 6 months. The target degree is a PhD from Tampere University.
Funding is provided in accordance with MSCA rules, with a gross salary of 3,950 euros/month (living and mobility allowance), and 4,450 euros/month if eligible for family allowance. The MSCA Fellow pays Finnish progressive tax and employee unemployment insurance fee from the taxable monthly gross salary.
Applicants must have a Master of Science (MSc) diploma, be eligible for the Tampere University Doctoral Program, and not have been awarded a doctoral degree. The MSCA Mobility Rule applies, requiring candidates not to have resided or carried out their main activity in Finland for more than 12 months in the 3 years prior to recruitment. Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory, and a solid background in laser physics is a strong asset. Applicants of any nationality are welcome.
