Chalmers University of Technology, in collaboration with the University of Gothenburg, invites applications for nine fully funded doctoral student positions at the Department of Mathematical Sciences. As Sweden’s largest mathematics department, the Department of Mathematical Sciences is renowned for its excellence in both pure and applied mathematics, mathematical statistics, and interdisciplinary research. The department is organized into three divisions: Algebra and Geometry, Analysis and Probability Theory, and Applied Mathematics and Statistics, offering a vibrant and collaborative research environment with around 200 employees.

Research areas for these positions span a wide spectrum, including algebra, geometry, analysis, probability theory, applied mathematics, statistics, number theory, computational mathematics, mathematical general relativity, geometric hydrodynamics, discrete optimization, computational complexity, cancer bioinformatics, and AI-driven 3D city modelling. Doctoral students at Chalmers are employed by the university and receive a competitive starting salary of 34,550 SEK per month (as of May 25, 2025), along with comprehensive employee benefits. The standard contract is four years, with the possibility to extend to five years if up to 20% teaching is undertaken.
