Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) is offering a fully funded Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) PhD position under a research grant focused on the project 'Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) Docking in Complex Underwater Environments: A Comprehensive Design and Hydrodynamic Analysis.' The research is part of the Smart Offshore Docking Station for Integrated Marine Autonomous Transportation System initiative, providing a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge marine robotics and autonomous systems.

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team to design, analyze, and develop docking systems for AUVs in challenging underwater environments. The project emphasizes hydrodynamic modeling, experimental and simulation-based research, and the integration of control systems and embedded platforms such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi. The research environment encourages collaboration across naval architecture, marine engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and mechatronics.

Applicants should be current or prospective PhD students with a strong background in one or more of the following fields: Naval Architecture, Marine/Offshore/Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related engineering disciplines. Candidates with experience or interest in marine robotics, autonomous systems, hydrodynamics, control systems, and embedded platforms are highly encouraged to apply. Experience with mechatronic systems is preferred, and a willingness to work in an interdisciplinary research environment is essential.

The position offers a monthly allowance of RM2,300, with funding secured until May 2028. This financial support enables students to focus on their research without financial concerns.
