About this position
Are you passionate about advancing semiconductor technology with 2D materials? The Eindhoven University of Technology invites applications for a PhD position focused on developing next-generation CMOS devices at the sub-1 nm node. As a PhD candidate, you will join the Plasma & Materials Processing (PMP) group under the supervision of Dr. Ye Wang, working in state-of-the-art cleanroom facilities and collaborating with leading industrial partners.
Your research will center on the CVD and MOCVD growth of high-quality 2D semiconductors, such as transition metal dichalcogenides and metal oxyselenides, targeting both n-type and p-type materials for advanced CMOS applications. The project covers the full innovation chain, from materials synthesis and comprehensive characterization (using techniques like Raman, XPS, AFM, SEM/TEM) to device integration and testing. You will fabricate and evaluate cutting-edge device architectures, including 2D Complementary FETs (CFETs), memory devices, and sensors, contributing directly to overcoming the scaling limits of conventional silicon technology.
This interdisciplinary research bridges materials science, electrical engineering, and nanotechnology, addressing critical challenges in the semiconductor industry. The work is essential for enabling future advances in computing, artificial intelligence, and sensor technologies. You will be part of the Department of Applied Physics and Science Education, which offers a dynamic, research-driven environment with strong connections between research and education.
Eligibility: Applicants must have a master's degree (or equivalent) in Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field. A strong background in 2D materials synthesis (CVD/MOCVD experience preferred), semiconductor device physics, and materials characterization is required. Experience with cleanroom fabrication, a research-oriented mindset, and fluency in English (C1 level) are essential. Candidates should be motivated to develop teaching skills and work collaboratively in an international team.
Funding & Benefits: The position offers full-time employment for four years, with a competitive salary (scale P: €3,059–€3,881/month), year-end bonus, vacation pay, pension scheme, paid parental leave, commuting and home working allowances, and a 30% tax compensation scheme for international candidates. High-quality training and support for professional development are provided.
Application: Apply online via the official application link. Submit a cover letter, CV (including publications and references), degree certificates and transcripts, and proof of English proficiency. The vacancy remains open until filled, with a deadline of January 25, 2026. For further information, contact Dr. Ye Wang ([email protected]) or HR Services ([email protected]).
