The School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering (SPREE) at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) is internationally recognized as a leading research hub in photovoltaics and renewable energy. The project involves engineering and fabricating new III-V semiconductor devices, with recent advances in the field gaining significant attention in the media and scientific community.
Applicants should have prior experience with III-V optoelectronics and cleanroom device fabrication. The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a closely related discipline, with an overall GPA of at least 80% or equivalent. Preference is given to those with a Masters by research, particularly with a strong focus on semiconductor physics, whether theoretical or experimental. Prior research experience is crucial for securing competitive scholarships, especially for international students.
Successful candidates will be awarded a full scholarship for 3.5 years through the UNSW RTPi scholarship competition. The scholarship covers all university fees and provides a tax-free stipend of approximately AUD $39,206 per year, along with a conference attendance allowance to support participation in international scientific conferences. Additional financial support may be available for exceptional candidates through external funding rounds. Country-specific stipend schemes are available for students from India, Indonesia, China, Vietnam, Germany, Austria, and Chile, while domestic Australian students in good standing have access to fully funded positions.
