About this position
The Dresden University of Technology (TU Dresden) is offering a PhD position in isotope hydrology within the Chair of Forest Sites and Hydrology, Faculty of Environmental Sciences. The research focuses on matter and water cycling in forests, particularly how global change impacts forest establishment, transformation, and management in relation to water and nutrient cycles. The PhD project will investigate water and isotope fluxes through forests, including field data collection in Saxon forest stands (both natural and reduced stem density). The aim is to determine how forest management influences water supply, followed by model-based assessment of the forest water cycle with an emphasis on hydroclimatic extremes such as droughts.
The position offers the opportunity to build a strong scientific profile in isotope hydrology and ecohydrology, participate in TU Dresden’s Graduate Academy courses, and supervise BSc/MSc students. The research environment is international and interdisciplinary, with access to state-of-the-art hydrological and isotopic analytical tools. The position is limited until February 28, 2029, and is remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L (50% of full-time weekly hours).
Applicants should have a university degree in hydrosciences, (eco)hydro(geo)logy, forestry, geoscience, or related fields, with field and/or lab experience preferred. Experience in diverse teams, scientific publishing, and (eco)hydrological modelling (R, Python, Matlab) is required. A German driver's license (class B) is mandatory, and basic German knowledge is desirable. TU Dresden encourages applications from women and candidates with disabilities. For more information or to apply, contact Prof. Dr. Natalie Orlowski at [email protected].
