This PhD position focuses on seismology for geothermal exploration and long-term geothermal monitoring, offered as a joint program between the University of Twente (Netherlands) and the HUN-REN EPSS Kövesligethy Radó Seismological Observatory (Hungary). The research will involve developing and applying advanced seismic methods to improve geothermal reservoir imaging, exploration, and monitoring. Key research areas include ambient seismic noise tomography, receiver function analysis, earthquake detection and location (using classical and machine-learning approaches), seismic anisotropy analysis, and multi-technique integration for geothermal hazard assessment and monitoring workflows.

The successful candidate will participate in field deployments, operate seismic stations, process extensive data, and contribute to methodological development. The student will be primarily based in Budapest, with annual research visits to the Netherlands, ensuring strong international collaboration and exposure to complementary expertise and facilities. The project is ideal for candidates with a background in geophysics, earth sciences, physics, or related fields, and a strong interest in seismology and seismic analysis.

The position offers a gross monthly salary of €1500, fully covered travel and accommodation for research visits, and funding for international conference participation.
