About this position
The Division of Wireless Communications and Radio Positioning (HAN Group) at RPTU University Kaiserslautern-Landau, Germany, is inviting applications for a full-time PhD student position in the field of wireless security and Integrated Sensing & Communication (ISAC). This position is part of an international research collaboration involving RPTU, RWTH Aachen University, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, University of Miami, and University of South Florida, funded by the NSF-DFG SaTC program.
The research focuses on next-generation wireless systems (5G/6G), where ISAC introduces new security challenges such as eavesdropping, spoofing, and jamming. The project aims to develop trust ISAC security frameworks, with research thrusts in transmitter verification, receiver verification, and data privacy protection. The PhD student will contribute to all thrusts, especially transmitter and receiver verification, and collaborate with international partners.
Responsibilities include conducting original research on physical layer security, device authentication, and secure channel design for ISAC systems; developing theoretical models, algorithms, and protocols; validating proposals through simulation and hardware experiments; collaborating with partner institutions; publishing in high-ranking journals; and participating in international research visits.
Applicants should have an M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with strong skills in wireless communications, signal processing, mathematical analysis, and programming (Python/MATLAB). Experience with simulation tools and USRP hardware is a plus. Candidates should be self-motivated, able to work independently and in teams, and possess strong English communication skills. The position offers a competitive salary (TV-L E13, €4,500–€5,000/month), full social security, and opportunities for international collaboration and travel.
