Requirements
Applicants must hold a ResMA/MRes or MA with a specialisation in history, early modern studies, literature, or languages, awarded by the time of appointment with a grade of 8.0 or above on a ten-point scale (distinction or equivalent) for the thesis. Candidates should have well-developed research skills, professional proficiency in English, and proficiency in German, French, and/or Dutch (especially reading), or willingness to learn one of these languages. Experience with or willingness to learn early modern handwriting in Dutch, English, German, and French is required. Knowledge of Latin is a bonus. Candidates must be willing to work up to 4 months in archives and libraries in the UK, Belgium, France, and Germany, and be able to relocate to the Netherlands for the duration of the project. Proven time-management skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and the ability to complete the PhD in 4 years are essential.
