Northeastern University’s Spatial Intelligence Research Group, led by Assistant Professor Mallesh Dasari, is recruiting 1–2 PhD students for Fall 2026. The group focuses on cutting-edge research in XR systems, AI-driven interaction, computer networking, and streaming volumetric/4D media. Research topics include human–AI collaboration in XR, spatial interfaces for AI assistance, multimodal perception, XR task support, and networked systems for XR such as low-latency networking, edge/cloud offloading, adaptive streaming, and protocols for immersive workloads.

The PhD program in Computer Engineering at Northeastern is research-based and offers flexibility in course requirements. Applicants can enter with a BS or MS in computer engineering or a closely related field. The curriculum covers computer architecture, software engineering, VLSI, microprocessor-based design, and applied algorithms, providing a strong foundation in both hardware and software design. Students benefit from Northeastern’s location in Boston, a biotechnology and technology hub, and have access to internships, co-op programs, and professional development workshops.

Financial support is available, including stipends and tuition coverage. The program encourages hands-on, curious applicants who are excited to build real systems.
