With its ultramodern research infrastructure, its interdisciplinary research platforms and its international networks, DESY offers a highly attractive working environment in the fields of science, technology and administration as well as for the education of highly qualified young scientists.IceCube is the world's largest and most sensitive neutrino telescope, located at the South Pole Station in Antarctica. DESY hosts one of the largest IceCube groups worldwide, contributing to the construction and operation of the instrument. Our science activities focus on neutrino astronomy and the studies of fundamental properties of neutrinos with IceCube. The group also plays a key role for the IceCube Upgrade, an extension of the IceCube detector with new optical sensors and calibration devices, with deployment scheduled in late 2025. The IceCube group is part of DESY's astroparticle division focused on multi-messenger astronomy with a network of groups that connect neutrino astronomy to optical/UV and gamma-ray astronomy, as well as theoretical modelling of high-energy phenomena. Candidates for thesis research will have to satisfy the terms of admission for doctoral theses of the University.
