PhD Research Fellow in Environmental Sociology and Politics of Sustainable Transition University of Agder in Norway

The University of Agder (UiA) in Kristiansand, Norway, is inviting applications for a PhD Research Fellow in Environmental Sociology and the Politics of Sustainable Transition. This full-time, fully funded position offers a unique opportunity to explore urgent social questions related to the decarbonisation of economies, technological and political challenges, and the implementation of green and twin transition policies. The research may address topics such as democratic politics and governance challenges posed by sustainability policies, social movements and discourses around sustainability, and issues of exclusion, inequality, and environmental injustice.

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree (120 ECTS, B average or higher) in Sociology, Political Science, International Relations, or a closely related social science. A strong, original project proposal is required. Desired qualifications include knowledge of environmental and political sociology, experience in scientific research and academic writing, university teaching experience, and strong communication skills. While the ability to communicate in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is preferred, it is not mandatory. Scientific publications will strengthen your application.

The position is for three years (or four years with 25% other duties) and offers a competitive gross annual salary of NOK 550,800, plus pension and additional welfare benefits.
