KU Leuven’s Institute of Social Law is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD scholarship in comparative social security law. The successful candidate will conduct doctoral research focusing on the interaction between national social security law, national competition law, and European internal market rules. The project emphasizes both empirical and theoretical approaches, aiming to analyze the societal relevance and policy impact of social security regulations.

The PhD candidate will be expected to develop a thorough research proposal and complete their doctoral studies within the framework of this theme. The role includes limited involvement in educational activities, such as supervising student papers and assisting in seminars. Interdisciplinary research is encouraged, and the environment is stimulating and supportive, with opportunities for international exposure and collaboration.

Applicants should hold a Master of Laws degree or be in their final year of law studies, with very good academic results (distinction or higher). Proficiency in English and Dutch is required, and knowledge of additional languages (Spanish, Italian, or German) is considered an asset. International study or work experience is preferred, and candidates should demonstrate a strong research interest in social security law and its societal importance. Methodical, meticulous, and persistent research skills are essential, and teaching experience is an added advantage.
