About this position

Ghent University, a leading institution in Belgium, is offering a post-doctoral assistant position within the Department of Accounting, Corporate Finance and Taxation, part of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. This role is ideal for candidates with a strong background in Business Economics and Law, particularly those interested in research at the intersection of economics and law, with a focus on market regulation and competition.

At least 70% of the appointment is dedicated to academic research, specifically in the area of competition. The successful candidate will also assist in guiding Master’s dissertations, supervise doctoral students, and provide educational support for law courses, especially Private Law, within the Business Administration and Public Administration study programmes. These courses are delivered exclusively in Dutch, so proficiency in Dutch is essential.

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Business Economics or an equivalent qualification, preferably with additional expertise in Business Economics and Law. For degrees awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) is required. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of research at the intersection of economics and law, relevant scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals, experience teaching legal courses, and presenting research at international forums. An international network within Law and Economics and mobility are recommended.

The appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal upon approval by the Faculty Council. Remuneration is determined according to salary scale AAP5, and Ghent University offers a comprehensive benefits package including training opportunities, 36 days of paid leave, bicycle commuting reimbursement, and ecocheques. The position is open to candidates who have previously held similar appointments, even at other universities or in different disciplines.

To apply, candidates must submit their application online via the Ghent University e-recruitment system before the deadline of 10 March 2026. Required documents include a CV and publication list (merged PDF), cover letter (PDF), diploma transcript, and certificate of equivalence if applicable. Applications not submitted online or after the deadline will not be considered. For further information about the vacancy, applicants may contact Professor Patricia Everaert at [email protected].

Ghent University is committed to equal opportunities and diversity, encouraging all qualified candidates to apply. The position offers a stimulating academic environment, opportunities for international collaboration, and the chance to contribute to cutting-edge research in business, finance, and law.
