Mälardalen University is recruiting a Postdoc in Industrial Systems with a specialization in Automation at the Eskilstuna campus in Sweden. The position sits within the research profile MARC (Mälardalen Research and Competence Centre for Future Manufacturing) and focuses on automation, production systems, industrial transformation, smart and portable automation, robotics, mechatronics, and system integration.
The postdoctoral researcher will work on applied, industry-relevant research in close collaboration with industrial partners and other researchers. The role includes independently planning and carrying out scientific studies, developing new methods, technologies, and prototypes for portable and reconfigurable automation, and exploring how these solutions can be integrated into industrial environments with requirements for flexibility, quality, and resource efficiency. The work may involve experimental research in laboratory and industrial settings, system development, analysis of production flows, co-creation with company partners, scientific writing, dissemination, and oral presentation of results.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in Production Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation, Robotics, or another relevant technical field; degree completed no more than three years before the end of the application period; no prior postdoc at MDU in the same or related area exceeding one year; documented experimental research experience; experience with industrial robots, collaborative robots, or portable robotic platforms; programming/control systems skills in PLC, Python, C/C++, MATLAB, ROS, or equivalent; strong independence, collaboration skills, and excellent English scientific writing. Swedish is a merit.
Employment details: temporary full-time position for up to 3 years, with teaching or other departmental duties up to 20%. The closing date for applications is 2026-04-30.
