About this position

The University of Stavanger is offering a postdoctoral fellowship in Computational Materials Science, focusing on the project "CO2 capture, storage, and utilization with aromatic macrocycles." The project aims to design molecule-based ordered structures for efficient CO2 capture and storage. The research involves atomistic modelling using both force field and ab initio methods to study surface-adsorbed aromatic macrocycles and crystalline structures composed of these macrocycles. Example molecules include cyclophanes, which will be functionalized to create suitable adsorption sites for CO2. The investigation will cover graphitic substrates and silicon oxide surfaces as supports for these macromolecules. Key research questions address structure formation, gas uptake efficiency and selectivity, and kinetic aspects.

The position is intended to help the successful candidate develop a research profile and gain qualifications for an Associate Professor role. A career development plan will be established, and the fellow will have access to career guidance throughout the postdoctoral period. The employment is for three years and may include teaching and supervision duties. The position is funded by Akademia Avtale (Equinor), and offers a competitive salary (NOK 590,000–680,000 gross per year), automatic membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, relocation support, and access to various employee benefits such as gym membership, sports club, and discounted public transport.
