About this position

The Nanomaterials for Advanced Memory and Computing Group at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for the European Research Council Proof of Concept project SECURE-FLEXIMAG. The group, led by ICREA Professor Jordi Sort, focuses on the development of novel nanoscale-material-based memory concepts with improved energy efficiency, targeting applications in brain-inspired computing and advanced data security.

The research explores voltage control of magnetic heterostructures to create ultra-low-power, non-volatile magneto-ionic memories. These technologies are at the forefront of neuromorphic and unconventional computing paradigms, including multi-level memory, probabilistic p-bits, and analog memory architectures. The group’s work bridges iontronics and magnetism, aiming to develop in-memory physical computing systems that co-locate data storage and processing, inspired by the human brain.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant international team and benefit from UAB’s and ICN2’s excellent scientific infrastructure and strong international networks. The position offers a 12-month full-time contract, extendable to 24 months, with a competitive salary (~41,000 € gross/year), international training, secondments, and a structured scientific and transferable skills programme. The research environment in Barcelona provides an exceptional quality of life and a dynamic scientific ecosystem.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Electronic Engineering, or a related field, with experience in magnetism or spintronics considered an asset. Fluency in English is required. The group’s research lines include the discovery and control of new memory effects in nanoscale materials, implementation of hybrid memory concepts, and the development of energy-efficient, brain-inspired computing architectures. For more information, candidates are encouraged to visit the group’s webpages and contact Prof. Jordi Sort directly.

Application deadline: 15 March 2026 (24:00 CEST). Interested candidates should email Prof. Jordi Sort at [email protected].
