About this position

This new full-time post is available from 1 September 2025 until 28 February 2027 on a fixed term basis.

This role may be subject to additional background screening.

The post

The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to support the work of Brian Hendrich. This MRC funded post is available from 1 September 2025 for a period of 18 months in the first instance. The successful applicant will undertake a project focused on determining how chromatin remodelling proteins facilitate neural crest development using human induced pluripotent stem cell model system. A good understanding of enhancer and chromatin biology is essential, and the ability to analyse next generation sequencing datasets using R-based programming would be advantageous.

About you

The successful applicant will have a PhD (or nearing completion), experience in mammalian stem cell culture and a strong grasp of molecular and biochemical lab techniques. The candidate will have a keen interest in the control of cell fate decisions and a good understanding of chromatin-based control of gene expression at both the 2D (DNA and chromatin) and 3D (nuclear organisation) levels. These will be supported by a proven track record in scientific publications. Applicants must display an ability to undertake project management, work within a multi-disciplinary team environment and the ability to contribute to an environment supporting researchers at all stages of their careers including supervising and training junior colleagues.

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

About the LSI

The Living Systems Institute is a cross-Faculty and truly interdisciplinary research Institute that combines theory and technology from mathematical and physical sciences with experimental analysis in biology and biomedicine (Living Systems Institute | University of Exeter ). Fusing different disciplines empowers discovery across scales: from atoms to organisms, from microbes to humans. LSI’s mission is to decode the complex machinery of living systems and harness this understanding to benefit human health and wellbeing.

Above the science aspect, the LSI is also a welcoming place with a vibrant and supporting research community of about 180 postdocs, PhDs, and principal investigators from around the world working in top-standard laboratories with excellent facilities and supported by dedicated technical and professional services colleagues.

Please ensure you read the Job Description and Person Specification for full details of this role.
