About this position

The University of Oslo is offering a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Data Science and Precision Medicine at the Centre for Precision Psychiatry. This multidisciplinary centre is at the forefront of research into severe mental and neuropsychiatric disorders, leveraging advanced statistical methods, AI-tools, and large-scale human genetic and neuroimaging data. The overarching aim is to develop innovative tools and knowledge for precision medicine in brain disorders, enhancing understanding of the biological, psychological, and environmental factors that influence disease progression, treatment, and outcomes.

The Centre collaborates extensively with hospital departments in Oslo, research groups at the University of Oslo, and international partners, including UC San Diego, the J. Craig Venter Institute, and leading industry partners such as Nvidia, OpenAI, and Microsoft. Research activities are supported by access to comprehensive databases containing biomarkers, clinical and cognitive variables, genotyping and sequencing data, and MRI brain imaging data from patients with neuropsychiatric and severe mental disorders. The Centre also works closely with national population cohorts (Tromsø, HUSK, HUNT) and participates in large international consortia, including the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium (PGC), ENIGMA, ADNI, NBDC, and UKBiobank.

The successful postdoctoral fellow will join a dynamic team of clinicians, statisticians, applied mathematicians, AI-methodologists, and computer scientists. The position involves working with the Centre’s datasets, analytical methodologies, and computational tools, utilizing state-of-the-art data storage and research infrastructure hosted at the USIT TSD service. The research environment is highly collaborative, offering opportunities to engage with both national and international experts in the field.

Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in medical sciences, neuroscience, computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, or a related discipline. Experience with large-scale data analysis, AI-methodology, and computational research tools is highly desirable. Strong analytical skills and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams are essential. The position is full-time and temporary, with a contract of 37.5 hours per week.

For further details about the Centre for Precision Psychiatry, visit the Centre’s website. The application deadline is January 5, 2026. Interested candidates should submit their application via the JobbNorge portal, ensuring all required documents are included. For specific queries, contact the supervisors: Dr. Shahram Bahrami, Professor Ole A. Andreassen, or Professor Anders M. Dale.

This fellowship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in precision medicine and data science, with access to world-class resources and collaborative networks. Candidates passionate about advancing the understanding and treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders are encouraged to apply.
