The University of Alberta is inviting applications for the Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards, a prestigious postdoctoral opportunity for scholars currently outside Canada, including Canadians working abroad. This one-time initiative, administered by CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC, aims to recruit international or returning Canadian postdoctoral researchers to contribute to Canada's research ecosystem.

The program offers 400 postdoctoral research awards across Canada, each valued at $70,000 per year for up to two years. Research must align with one of the following priority areas: advanced digital technologies (AI, quantum, cybersecurity), health (including biotechnology), clean technology and resource value chains, environment, climate resilience, the Arctic, food and water security, democratic and community resilience, manufacturing and advanced materials, and defence and dual-use technologies.

Eligibility requirements include holding or expecting to hold a doctorate or health professional degree before the award start date, not currently being affiliated with a Canadian institution, and not holding or being on leave from a tenure-track or tenured faculty position. There is no restriction on the time since PhD completion. Applicants must be ready to activate the award in Canada by March 31, 2027. Importantly, applicants must find a University of Alberta faculty member with an active Tri-Agency grant who is willing to supervise their postdoctoral research.

The application process involves contacting a potential supervisor at the University of Alberta, securing their support, and having the faculty member submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) form by February 9, 2026. Selected candidates will be invited to submit a full application by March 4, 2026. Research security requirements apply, and nominees must not have previously held a postdoctoral-level award from the three agencies or currently benefit from tri-agency funds.
