About this position

The Department of Finance and Economics at Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in economics for a two-year, full-time position starting August 1, 2026 or later by agreement. Hanken’s economics unit specializes in industrial organization, behavioral economics, microeconomics, and labor economics, with active participation in research groups and experimental studies through Helsinki LABBET. The unit is committed to high-quality academic research relevant to society and business, with publications in top journals such as American Economic Review, Rand Journal of Economics, and FT50-listed business journals. Teaching is conducted in both Swedish and English, with courses at bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, and collaboration with Aalto University and the University of Helsinki. The economics unit also fulfills a national mission by offering doctoral courses to students outside the capital region.

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in economics or a related field. Evaluation criteria include research excellence, teaching ability, scientific community engagement, and societal impact. Fluent English skills are required. Academic staff are expected to conduct and supervise research, provide high-quality teaching, stay current in their field, and participate actively in the academic and broader community. The annual workload is 1,612 hours, with a requirement to be present at the department in Helsinki at least three working days per week. Teaching duties are based on departmental needs and expertise, typically covering 6-10 ECTS courses per academic year.

The position offers a starting annual salary of approximately €45,000, with potential for higher compensation based on qualifications. A start-up research budget is provided, and additional funding for research, travel, and teaching development can be applied for. Occupational health care and pension contributions are included.
