Upcoming Postdoctoral Scholar position at the University of Southern California in Dr. Sze-chuan Suen’s research group (Associate Professor, Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering).

The project focuses on health policy modeling using simulation, machine learning, data analytics, and related quantitative methods. The work includes predicting health outcomes from longitudinal and cross-sectional data, building and modifying individual-level simulation models to evaluate the cost and effectiveness of health interventions, and communicating results to interdisciplinary collaborators through manuscripts and other dissemination materials.

Depending on interest, the role may also involve clinical trial data, electronic health record data from a large hospital system in Los Angeles, mentoring students, and contributing to grant proposal development. The position is described as hybrid, with some in-person meetings and simulation training sessions plus remote work for other tasks.

This is a one-year postdoctoral appointment with a possible extension to 2–3 years. The start date is flexible but should be between June 2026 and September 2026. Preferred preparation includes a doctorate degree in a related field, strong skills in statistics/machine learning/data analytics, and experience with healthcare data or simulation models. Strong writing and verbal communication skills are required, while optimization, compartmental modeling, and dynamic programming are listed as additional preferred experience.
