PhD Scholarship Opportunity: Human Affect and Artificial Intelligence

My lab at the School of Psychological Sciences at University of Newcastle (UoN) has secured a fully funded PhD scholarship for a candidate to work in the field of Human Affect and Artificial Intelligence (AI). We offer an exceptional opportunity to work at the intersection of psychology, computer science, and machine learning to advance understanding and innovation in AI systems sensitive to human emotions and behaviors.
I will lead this project at UoN and will provide primary supervision for this candidature.
Key Highlights:
• Funding: Full tuition coverage and stipend for 3.5 years.
• Field of Research: Human Affect and Artificial Intelligence.
• Location: Newcastle University, Ourimbah/Callaghan UON Campuses, NSW, Australia.
• Supervision: Work under the guidance of leading researchers in clinical and cognitive psychology and AI.
Eligibility Criteria:
• Successful completion of an undergraduate degree
• A strong academic background/interest in cognitive/clinical psychology or a related field.
• Skills:
o Excellent scientific writing skills.
o Some experience with research methodologies.
Project Overview:
This PhD project is funded by the ARC Linkage Grant. We aim to explore innovative ways to integrate human emotional understanding into AI systems. Research areas may include but are not limited to:
• Hyper personalization
• Emotional recognition and modelling.
• Human-centered AI design.
What We Offer:
• Mentorship by experienced researchers, including opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Access to state-of-the-art research facilities and resources.
• A dynamic, supportive research environment.
