As previously “warned,” the PhD position is finally open. So if you or someone you know would like to pursue a PhD in sociology with a focus on gang crime and recruitment, we warmly welcome your application.

P.S. As a PhD student, you’ll join a team of five friendly and dedicated Swedish and Danish researchers. In other words, you’ll have ample opportunity to work independently while also enjoying close collaboration and continuous support.

Also, Department of Sociology, Lund University is a rather lovely place to work. And as our future PhD student and colleague, you can choose to settle in wonderful Lund, or, alternatively, you might want to live in one of the bigger cities and commute from, say, Malmö or Copenhagen. What's required

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, or a related discipline. Experience with ethnography, especially in gang environments, is highly valued. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to conduct interviews and long-term ethnographic observation, establish contact and gain access to gang/criminal environments, and possess a strong ethical and moral compass. Excellent knowledge of English is required; Swedish and/or Danish proficiency is highly prioritized. Applicants should have strong theoretical ability, motivation, independence, collaboration and communication skills, and documented experience with qualitative social science methodologies.
