Description

This two-year postdoctoral position at Aix-Marseille Université is funded by the A*MIDEX Chaire d'Excellence project “Nonstationary Models of Biological Signals” (NOMOS), led by Professor Anna Dudek. The project is based at the Institut de Mathématiques de Marseille (I2M) and focuses on developing advanced statistical models and algorithms for analyzing nonstationary biological signals, particularly those with irregular cyclicity. The primary research objective is to develop new concentration inequalities in nonstationary settings, with a special emphasis on periodic Markov chains and periodic time series. The successful candidate will be responsible for coding algorithms in R or Python, such as methods for splitting periodic time series into regeneration blocks, and applying these methods to real biomedical datasets. The role also involves effective communication of technical material, building collaborations, and potentially assisting in the supervision of student projects, supporting student research skills, and delivering seminars related to the research area. Applicants must have a PhD in statistics or probability, with a strong background in statistics. Expertise in Markov chains and concentration inequalities is highly desirable, as is proficiency in R and/or Python. Candidates must not be currently employed by Aix-Marseille Université and must have obtained their last degree outside AMU. The position is open to all qualified candidates, with a strong encouragement for women to apply, and the selection process is merit-based and free from bias. The contract is full-time and temporary, with a start date envisaged for December 1, 2025, and a duration of 24 months. Salary is provided according to the standard scale for postdoctoral researchers. The Euraxess Center at Aix-Marseille Université offers support for foreign researchers regarding visas, insurance, accommodation, and other practical matters. Applications should include a full academic CV (with publication list), a cover letter (max 1 page), and two reference letters sent directly by referees. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. For more information or to apply, contact Professor Anna Dudek at aedudek@agh.edu.pl or visit the application link provided.
