The University of Graz invites applications for a University Assistant without doctorate (PhD Position) at the Graz Schumpeter Centre, focusing on Public Economics, Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence. This four-year, temporary position offers an annual gross salary of at least €52,865.40 (full-time, 30 hours/week), with the possibility of overpayment based on qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will write a dissertation in Public Economics, collaborate on research projects—especially those related to Big Data and Optimal Income Taxation—and participate in teaching and examination tasks within the Economics Department. Additional responsibilities include supervising students and contributing to organizational, administrative, and evaluation tasks.

Applicants must hold a diploma or master’s degree in Economics, Business Mathematics, Mathematics, or another quantitative/mathematically oriented field. Strong research interests in the economic implications of artificial intelligence and/or political economy are essential. Candidates should possess very good German and English skills, both written and spoken, as well as strong IT skills. Prior knowledge of LaTeX, Mathematica, and ideally Stata is preferred, or a high willingness to learn these tools. Interest in quantitative research methods, economic theory, and developing economic models is required, along with very good knowledge of the theory of Optimal Income Taxation. Familiarity with empirical research methods is an advantage. The position is suited for those interested in internationally oriented research, scientific work, and student engagement, and who demonstrate strong teamwork and organizational skills.
