About this position
Vigyan Vidushi (Physics) 2026 is an advanced, three-week in-person programme at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai, designed specifically for women students in the first year of their two-year M.Sc. in physics, the fourth year of a 4-year B.S./B.Sc./B.Sc. (Physics), or the fourth year of an Integrated B.Sc.-M.Sc. in physics. The programme aims to expose participants to advanced topics in physics, research opportunities, and to inspire them to pursue research careers in physics.
Participants will benefit from lectures, tutorials, and experimental sessions led by successful women scientist role models. The curriculum includes about five courses, with morning lectures and afternoon tutorials, and a special focus on advanced experimental techniques. There will also be interactive sessions on problem-solving, physics education research, and opportunities to visit research laboratories at TIFR and GMRT. The programme features special lectures by women scientists, mentoring sessions addressing gender-related issues, and ample opportunities for networking and interaction with subject experts.
All selected students will receive full travel support for train or bus travel (up to AC 3-tier fare reimbursed) and partial support for air travel, subject to funding constraints. Accommodation and meals are provided free of cost at the HBCSE campus for the duration of the programme. The 2026 session is scheduled from Monday, 25 May to Saturday, 13 June, 2026.
Eligibility is restricted to women students in the specified years of their physics degree programmes who can attend the full three-week session in Mumbai. The programme is an excellent opportunity for women in physics to deepen their subject knowledge, gain exposure to research, and receive mentorship from leading women scientists in India. For more information and application details, visit the official Vigyan Vidushi website.
