The John & Pat Hume Doctoral Awards at Maynooth University are among Ireland’s most competitive and supportive PhD funding schemes, designed to attract outstanding doctoral researchers for ambitious, interdisciplinary projects across the arts, humanities, social sciences, and sciences. The scholarship is open to new entrants to the PhD programme at Maynooth University for the academic year 2026-2027. The scheme is particularly suitable for candidates interested in cultural studies, intersectional humanities, social media analysis, youth research, disability studies, creative practice research, media and digital cultures, social justice, and environmental humanities. Professor Anna Hickey-Moody, Full Professor of Intersectional Humanities and Director of the Arts + Humanities Institute at Maynooth University, is one of the supervisors supporting applications. She has a strong track record of PhD supervision to completion, with expertise in intersectional, critical, and creative research. Professor Hickey-Moody is committed to career mentorship, supporting doctoral researchers to publish, collaborate internationally, and transition into academic and research leadership roles. The John & Pat Hume Doctoral Awards provide a four-year scholarship, including a €25,000 annual stipend, €2,000 research expenses per year, and EU tuition fees. Non-EU applicants may apply for a non-EU fee waiver. The awards are open across all disciplines at Maynooth University, and there is no application fee. Applicants must contact their selected Maynooth University supervisor to discuss their application and upload an academic reference from the supervisor to complete an eligible application. The application window opens on 1 December 2025 and closes on 23 January 2026 at 11:45pm (GMT). For more information, visit the Maynooth University website or contact the Graduate Research Academy. This is an excellent opportunity for prospective PhD candidates interested in intersectional, critical, and creative research to join a vibrant academic community and receive comprehensive support for their doctoral studies.
