PhD in Perovskite Supracrystals for Quantum Technologies at University of Strathclyde

The University of Strathclyde, in collaboration with the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Applied Quantum Technologies (CDT-AQT), is offering an exciting PhD opportunity in the field of perovskite supracrystals for quantum technologies. The project, supervised by Dr Aruna Ivaturi and Dr Nicolas Laurand, focuses on the synthesis and assembly of colloidal perovskite nanocrystals into supracrystals, with the aim of exploring their collective optical effects for advanced photonic applications such as solar cells, LEDs, lasers, and quantum technologies. Key research areas include the study of superfluorescence—a collective quantum phenomenon enabling ultra-efficient, low-threshold lasers—and the investigation of lead-free perovskite alternatives for sustainable device development. The student will work within interdisciplinary teams at the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry and the Department of Physics, leveraging expertise in nanocrystal synthesis, assembly, and photonic characterization. The project is also in collaboration with Fraunhofer UK Research Ltd, providing exposure to both academic and industrial research environments. The CDT-AQT brings together leading quantum science and technology centers at the University of Strathclyde, Heriot-Watt University, and the University of Glasgow, with over 30 industrial partners. The program offers a flexible, modular training curriculum, personalized development, and broad exposure to quantum technologies, including quantum computing, sensing, and communications. Applicants should have or be pursuing a degree in mathematics, physics, computer science, or engineering, and demonstrate relevant research and technical skills.
