PhD Scholarships in Experimental Geosciences at University of Bayreuth (DAAD GSSP)

The University of Bayreuth's Doctoral Programme of Experimental Geosciences has received the DAAD Graduate School Scholarship Programme (GSSP) award, offering up to two fully funded PhD scholarships for international candidates starting in 2026. The programme is hosted by the Bavarian Research Institute of Experimental Geochemistry and Geophysics (BGI) and is part of the Graduate School of Natural Sciences BayNAT. Research areas include experimental petrology and geochemistry, mineral physics, computational high-pressure physics and mineralogy, and isotope cosmochemistry and geochronology of planetary materials. Academic supervisors at BGI include Prof. Dr. Audrey Bouvier, Prof. Dr. Johannes Buchen, Prof. Dr. Tomoo Katsura, Dr. Yuan Li, and Dr. Gerd Steinle-Neumann, each specializing in different aspects of Earth and planetary sciences. Applicants must hold an above-average master's degree in Earth Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, or Material Sciences, have strong English skills, and must not have resided in Germany for more than 15 months or graduated more than six years before nomination. The scholarship covers €1,400/month, travel allowance, insurance, research allowance, and additional benefits such as rent subsidy, family allowance, and disability support.
