PhD Graduate Research Assistantship in Halal Industry, AI, IoT, Blockchain, and Shariah Studies
The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) is offering a prestigious PhD Graduate Research Assistantship in the Halal Industry, supported by a MOHE Research Excellence Consortium Grant. This opportunity is part of the H-TRUST collaborative platform, uniting IIUM, UPM, and UTP to drive innovation in Halal technology. The research project focuses on the development and validation of key components involving AI-assisted halal compliance, IoT-enabled traceability, blockchain integrity systems, and Shariah-aligned workflow validation. The aim is to establish a national Halal AI-IoT-Blockchain compliance framework, contributing directly to Malaysia’s national agenda for Halal innovation.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant research network and benefit from cross-university expertise, high-impact publication opportunities, and industry engagement. The position is fully funded for two years (1 January 2026 - 31 December 2027) with a monthly stipend of RM3000. The Graduate Research Assistantship is a full-time role, providing hands-on experience in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of technology and Islamic studies.
Applicants must possess a Master’s by Research in Islamic Studies, Shariah, Fiqh, Halal Studies, or related fields. Candidates should demonstrate strong motivation, the ability to work independently, excellent discipline, and a passion for interdisciplinary research. The supervisory team includes Prof. Azura Amid and Dr. Nor Asila Nazmi, both from IIUM, offering guidance and support throughout the research journey.
