PhD Scholarship in European Economic Law, Competition and Consumer Law at KU Leuven

KU Leuven invites applications for a full-time PhD scholarship in European economic law, focusing on competition, consumer, and internal market law, with an optional emphasis on comparative business law. The successful candidate will conduct original doctoral research within the Consumer Competition Market (CCM) research group, develop a dissertation under the supervision of KU Leuven academics, and participate in seminars and limited teaching activities on the Brussels and Leuven campuses. The position is based in Belgium, with work locations in both Brussels and Leuven. The research environment is dynamic and international, offering opportunities for collaboration and participation in national and international conferences. The scholarship is initially for one year and can be renewed annually for up to four years, subject to satisfactory progress. Applicants must hold a Master of Laws or an equivalent legal degree, have good to very good academic results, and possess excellent knowledge of Dutch. Proficiency in French and/or English is also required. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in competition, consumer, and market law research domains or comparative business law, and be able to complete a PhD within four years while contributing effectively to a research team. Required application documents include a CV, motivation letter, list of marks (Bachelor’s, Master’s, and other diplomas), and optionally a brief research proposal. Applications must be submitted online via KU Leuven’s application system by 19 March 2026, 23:59 CET. For academic enquiries, contact Prof. Dr. Bert Keirsbilck at [email protected]. This opportunity allows you to contribute to cutting-edge research in European economic law at one of Europe’s leading law faculties, with guidance from experienced researchers and the chance to engage in a vibrant academic community.
