PhD and Masters Scholarships in Safeguarding Systems for Care-Experienced Candidates at Durham University

The Davis Scholarship Round 2 at Durham University offers a unique opportunity for care-experienced candidates to pursue postgraduate research in safeguarding systems for adolescents. This scholarship, named after Jahnine Davis, is designed to support individuals with experience of care who are passionate about reimagining safeguarding systems for children and families. The program is run in partnership with Foundations – What Works Centre for Children & Families and is supervised by Professor Carlene Firmin, a leading academic in the field. The scholarship provides comprehensive support, including full fees and a stipend for a Masters degree if required, with free accommodation at a Durham college during the Masters year. Successful candidates will then receive three years of PhD fees, an elevated stipend to cover additional living costs, an annual clinical supervision budget, funded access to a peer support group for care-experienced researchers, and £1,500 per year for conference attendance. The program aims to foster a supportive and inclusive research environment within the GCCS Durham postgraduate research group. Applicants must have experience of care (as defined in the full advert) and hold an undergraduate degree. The scholarship is open to those who may need to complete a Masters degree before starting their PhD. This initiative is a significant step towards valuing the contributions of care-experienced individuals in advancing knowledge and practice in safeguarding systems. Applications are now open, and candidates are encouraged to apply and share the opportunity widely within their networks.
