Post-Doc in Translational Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience of Pain and Emotions

The tSCAN lab at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s Ein Kerem campus is seeking a post-doctoral researcher for a full-time position in translational social, cognitive, and affective neuroscience. The lab investigates the bio-psycho-social mechanisms underlying affective states, focusing on the interplay between pain and emotions, interoception, chronic pain comorbidities such as PTSD, and the societal dimensions of health-related injustice and empathy. Research projects utilize advanced neurophysiological technologies, including fMRI and EEG, and combine cognitive neuroscience methods, experimental psychology, and computational modeling to generate data-driven insights for improving patient outcomes. The successful candidate will join the Institute of Biomedical and Oral Research, a department renowned for its collaborative, translational science spanning basic research to clinical applications. Responsibilities include conducting research with state-of-the-art techniques (fMRI, EEG, brain stimulation), developing and applying data science and statistical analysis skills (R, MATLAB, Python), publishing and presenting findings, and collaborating in a multicultural, multilingual biomedical environment. Career development and mentorship activities are integral to the position. Supervision is provided by Professor Gadi Gilam, a distinguished leader in social, cognitive, and affective neuroscience, known for his expertise in neuroimaging, psychophysiology, and computational approaches. The lab offers a supportive and rigorous environment for emerging scientists. Applicants should have previous degrees in Psychology, Behavioral Sciences, Neuroscience, Computational Sciences, or related fields, with a strong publication record, proficiency in English, and prior research experience with human participants. Familiarity with statistical software and programming languages (R, MATLAB, Python) is required, and experience in psychophysiology and/or neuroimaging (fMRI, EEG) is highly desirable. The Hebrew University of Jerusalem is a globally recognized research institution, located in the vibrant and diverse city of Jerusalem. The Ein Kerem campus is a central hub for medical and health-related research, offering opportunities for academic collaboration and cultural exchange. The university values diversity, equity, and inclusion, welcoming students and researchers from around the world. Funding details for this position are to be determined. The application deadline is December 16, 2025. Interested candidates should submit a letter of motivation, CV (including publications), and a copy of their academic degree(s) as three separate PDF files via the application link.
