Postdoctoral and PhD Positions in Quantum Error Correction and Quantum Computing at Freie Universität Berlin
Freie Universität Berlin is offering postdoctoral and PhD positions in the field of quantum error correction for cold atomic platforms, as part of the international PASQUOPS consortium. The research focuses on programmable atomic large-scale logical quantum operations, combining abstract theoretical approaches with hardware-tailored solutions. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMFTR) and runs from August 2025 to July 2028.
The successful candidates will join a highly active and interdisciplinary research group led by Professor Jens Eisert, renowned for his work in quantum physics and quantum information. The group fosters a collaborative and stimulating environment, emphasizing open discussion, creative thinking, and international collaboration. Research topics include quantum error correction, quantum computing, quantum simulation, algorithmic methods, hardware optimization, and mathematical optimization. The project aims to develop efficient, scalable, and practical solutions for protecting fragile quantum information, with applications in chemical process simulation and combinatorial optimization.
Applicants should have a strong background in physics, mathematics, computer science, or related fields, with expertise in quantum information, quantum computing, or quantum error correction. Experience with cold atomic platforms, algorithmic methods, or hardware optimization is advantageous. The positions are fully funded, with a project funding rate of 76.2% and substantial support for research activities.
